You will complete a project and write a report and create and give a presentation on the project. This is a holistic assessment method designed to allow you to demonstrate the KSBs in an integrated way.

You will have 4 weeks (after gateway) to complete the project and submit the report and presentation slides to Accelerate People – our End Point Assessment Organisation (EPAO).

Component 1: Project with a project output

The project may be based on a customer or stakeholder specification requiring you (the apprentice) to respond to any of the following with examples:

  • A specific problem – e.g. a colleague can’t log in to their email. You investigate and fix the underlying issue.
  • A recurring issue – e.g. the printer keeps jamming. You investigate the issue, identify why it keeps happening and put a long-term solution in place.
  • An idea or opportunity –e.g. updating spreadsheets takes too long. You suggest a tool to make it quicker
  • The implementation of new applications or systems – e.g. your organisation introduces new booking software. You help set it up and show others how to use it.
  • Proposed changes to operating procedures – e.g. the process for reporting IT issues is confusing. You suggest a simpler way to do it.
  • System monitoring – common software issues – e.g. you notice an error in a system. You check if it’s the software or a user mistake and fix it.

You will start the 4-week project after gateway, once you have been given your dates by Accelerate People. You may work as part of a team to complete the project which could include technical internal or external support. However, the project output must be your own work and reflective of their own role and contribution. You and your employer must confirm that the project output(s) is your own work when it is submitted.

Your project report, presentation, matrix and declaration are submitted by you directly to Accelerate People here: https://apgateway.accelerate-people.co.uk/login

Component 2: Presentation with questions

You need to prepare and deliver a presentation about your project to an independent assessor. This presentation gives you the opportunity to explain what you did, why you did it and how it demonstrates the required knowledge, skills and behaviours (KSBs).

Your presentation slides, speaker notes, and any supporting materials must be submitted at the same time as your project report. On the assessment day, you will deliver a 15-minute presentation to the independent assessor. Your presentation should include an overview of the project, the project scope and objectives, the actions you took and the outcomes achieved.

After the presentation, the independent assessor will ask at least 8 questions about your project and presentation. This question-and-answer session will last around 30 minutes and is used to explore your understanding, decision-making and competence. The total assessment time is 45 minutes, with a small amount of extra time allowed if needed to finish a point or answer a question.
